Highlights: Unique elliptical house nestled in woodland

Located on the west coast of Scotland, set in a wonderfully rural location, Drum House is surrounded by nature, close to the sea. It is a stunning, one-bedroom, self-contained elliptical house, with a sloping monopitch roof. With high ceilings, clad in charred larch with orange window frames and painted wooden floors, complete with a wood burning stove. It provides a relaxing getaway for two, nestled in woodland on a small estate (complete with castle).

Large areas of glazing ensure a constant connection to the outside whilst the elliptical form (allowing views in all directions) echoes the traditional Scottish brochs, making the relationship of the cabin to the site more natural and organic than a conventional rectangular form.

The central space contains the kitchenette, dining and sitting area, whilst flanking walls divide the space from the bedroom on one side and a shower room to the other. The Drum has a private outdoor area. When you step through the double French doors, you’ll find a patio with barbeque, fire pit and garden chairs and a table for two, perfect for relaxing evenings under the stars.

The Drum House structure was designed by Westwind Oak using the Kingspan Sip Tek system. This was supplied to the builders on-site by us after it was CNC cut by Kingspan. The system comprises of a series of pre cut Sip panels joined together using insulated spline joints and timber.
