Self Build

Whether you’re building a home, an extension, a garden room or porch, self build using a green oak timber frame will be an exciting adventure with loads of different design opportunities and aesthetics to choose from.

The trusses that play such an important role in supporting the roof and distributing the weight of the building make the most attractive of features. And, a timber frame can be used for either a traditional or a contemporary style simply by your choice of building systems and finish.

For the self builder, a major benefit of choosing a timber frame construction is that the frame is manufactured off site in the Westwind Oak workshop. This means that the on-site build time tends to be shorter than other building methods. A house frame can be raised in as little as a week, or less, with good weather and site conditions.

We can recommend architects and building contractors, or we’re more than happy to work with a team of your choosing. For the more hands-on self builder our structural designers can work directly with you to design your very own scheme.

We’ve helped 100’s of self builders create their dream homes. If you’d like to discuss your build please get in touch…… we’d love to hear from you.

“We worked closely with Westwind Oak and our Architect to develop our four bedroom oak framed self-build house. Westwind Oak were a pleasure to work with and delivered the oak frame and sips panels package on time and on budget. The attention to detail and ‘crafting’ of the timbers resulted in a spectacular open plan upstairs living area, taking full advantage of the exposed roof timbers and unique interrupted collar sling brace frames to the gables. We were able to visit the workshop to see the frames being made and the oak frame installation was particularly impressive, taking just one cold December day to erect from sole plate to ridge”
