Our Story
Westwind Oak has built over 1000 oak frame structures since the company was formed in 1988 and each and every one is entirely different.
Our unique buildings can be found as far away as the silver birch forests of Norway or as close as the farmhouse next door to our Workshop in North Somerset.
With over 35 years experience, our master craftspeople will bring unlimited knowledge to your timber frame project. We still handcraft our frames which are held together with handmade oak pegs. Our craft comes from understanding contemporary building systems and how to combine these with the traditional techniques of timber construction to create buildings that are really special.
We take on projects of all sizes with sites across the UK and beyond. From a tiny Pegoda in the Zen Gardens at Chelsea Flower Show to Chalets in the French Alps and the great big Jordan Cereal Visitor Centre in Bedfordshire.
Today Westwind Oak is Employee Owned but the Company was founded by Rupert Newman. It was an opportunity to help restore Tithe Barns for English Heritage that led him to a love of traditional green oak timber buildings and Westwind Oak was born. And the rest as they say, is history!
