The Quarry
Dorset
Architects: Roderick James Architects
Engineers: Andrew Waring Associates
Highlights: Built into a hillside with stunning views of the coast
Nestled into the picturesque landscape of the south coast of Dorset, The Quarry stands as a testament to architectural ingenuity and natural harmony. This unique abode, ingeniously built into the hillside overlooking Golden Cap, offers a captivating upside-down design. Upon entering through the main entrance on the first floor, guests are greeted by the breathtaking vista of the sea and Golden Cap from the spacious sitting room, which seamlessly extends onto a full-length balcony.
Crafted with meticulous attention to detail, The Quarry boasts a striking full oak frame construction, accentuated by elegant curve "sling brace" trusses upstairs. The frame was clad with SIP panels supplied by Westwind Oak lending structural integrity. This was finished off on the outside with locally-sourced natural stone and weatherboarding.
Beyond its stunning aesthetics, The Quarry embodies the perfect fusion of architectural intelligence and environmental sensitivity. Its innovative design optimizes space and captures the surrounding beauty, offering a tranquil retreat in the lovely Dorset countryside.
